Iowa crops continue to remain ahead of schedule.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, there were 5.7 days suitable for field work last week. Corn silking and beyond are at 35% completed, which is eight days ahead of where it was last year, and two days ahead of the five-year average. Also reported in the USDA Crop and Conditions weekly report, corn condition was rated at 83% good to excellent. Soybean blooming reached 58%, two weeks ahead of last year’s pace, blooming pods reached 10%, also two weeks ahead of last year, and overall condition was rated at 83% good to excellent.

Along with spotty showers, heat was a hurdle for crops last week. Perry was specifically mentioned in the weekly report as they recorded a  high temperature of 97 degrees on July 8th, which is 11 degrees higher than average.
