The 2020 Normal-ISH Greene County Fair is in the books, and organizers have had a chance to reflect on how the unique experience went.

Greene County ISU Extension Director Lori Mannel says due to COVID-19 they made the best of the situation to provide opportunities for 4-H’ers and their families to show off their work. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio static exhibits were down by 50-percent this year to about 200. Mannel describes how the livestock shows fared.

“What we saw was down a little bit with kids participating, (and) not as much as we had maybe thought. But the animals were down because instead of many a child bringing six pigs they would bring two. So the shows were a little more brief but our number one priority for us was safety at all times, but then giving a great educational opportunity.”

Mannel appreciates all of the volunteers, the 4-H’ers and their families, along with her staff, 4-H superintendents and judges for participating in the county fair.
