The AC/GC softball team fell just a couple runs short in their first playoff game Wednesday night.

The Chargers made the trip to Woodward to face off with Woodward-Granger for the third time this season. The two teams split the series with Woodward Granger winning 5-4 in Woodward and AC/GC won 7-4 later on in Guthrie Center. The night got off to an explosive start with AC/GC scoring their first four batters to jump to a 4-0 lead. It didn’t take long for the Hawks to close the gap as they scored four runs of their own to tie it up at 4-4 after the first inning.

Both pitchers settled in and Woodward Granger’s Rian Jamison dominated through the middle innings. AC/GC gave up several runs over the course of the next few frames and the Chargers faced an 8-4 deficit entering the sixth. Alaina Bunde led off the inning with a single, the first base hit given up by Jamison since the first inning. Then Sophia Rouse blasted a two-run homerun to left-center to cut the lead in half. The Hawks added another insurance run in their half of the inning to bring the lead to 9-6. The power bats weren’t done for AC/GC as Maddy Kelsey hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh. Unfortunately for AC/GC, that was not enough as Woodward Granger clinched the 9-7 victory.

With the loss, AC/GC finishes the abbreviated season with a 4-9 record.
