Cases of COVID-19 have begun to once again spike across Iowa, including several new positive tests reported in Dallas County.

With that in mind, the Dallas County Health Department reminds the public about the procedures for getting yourself tested if you’re showing signs of coronavirus. Community Health Administrator Abigail Chihak notes that the first thing you should do is contact your primary physician and advise them of your symptoms. However, Chihak adds that regardless of what you learn from your doctor, anyone who wishes to be tested can do so through a state program. “We have the Test Iowa site in Waukee right now, and it’s open Monday-Friday. So folks can go TestIowa.com, fill out the assessment, and schedule an appointment for testing. It is important to remember that that test is only indicative of that point in time, right? So as soon as you leave that test site, if you’re not continuing to practice those healthy behaviors and you come across an exposure, that’s not to say you can’t get sick in the future. But that’s a good way to know if the symptoms that you’re feeling now are COVID-19.”

Chihak reminds people the primary symptoms of coronavirus are mostly flu-like, with the unique signs including a shortness of breath or loss of taste and smell. To learn more about COVID-19, go to RVR.com and click on this story.
