A continued lack of precipitation has pushed counties in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area further into drought conditions.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor as of Friday, Greene County, along with most of Dallas and Guthrie counties were in a moderate drought. Only about ten of Iowa’s 99 counties are experiencing some sort of moderate drought, with Greene County being the only one that is entirely under that drought condition.

According to the National Weather Service as of Thursday Perry has only seen 0.6 inches of rain this month, while Jefferson has had 0.10 inches and Guthrie Center was sitting at 0.55 inches. Today’s expected rainfall should help relieve some areas that are desperately needing precipitation.
