After a tough start to the week, the AC/GC baseball team got to end their season on a high note.
The Chargers dropped their first two games of the week with an 8-0 loss to Perry Monday then a 8-3 loss to #5 Woodward Granger Tuesday. To wrap up the abbreviated regular season, AC/GC hit the road to take on Glidden-Ralston. The Chargers drew first blood with a two run first inning before the Wildcats cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Unlike Glidden-Ralston, AC/GC would keep their offensive momentum going throughout the next few innings adding three runs in the second, five in the third, and seven in the fifth. The pitching for the Chargers would hold up and they would end the game early as AC/GC won 17-5 after five innings. A nice 12 run win to count on to wrap up the regular season. Charlie Crawford had a dominant day at the dish going 4-5 with four runs scored, two runs batted in, a double, and a stolen base. Newell Rodgers accounted for seven runs himself, crossing the plate three times and batting in another four, and hitting two doubles.
AC/GC earned their fifth victory of the year, matching their season total from a year ago and needed 10 fewer games to do so. The road to state begins when the Chargers hit the road Saturday to Dayton for their first round matchup against 2-4 Manson Northwest Webster with a date with Woodward Granger on the line. First pitch is set for 4:30 and you can listen to the game on K107.9 FM with pre-game coverage slated for 4:15.
