The City of Guthrie Center was announced as one of 26 Iowa communities receiving a grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority Tuesday.

The City is receiving $100,000 to help the City and Main Street Guthrie Center’s efforts to rehabilitate the second and third floors of the Williams Building located on State Street for apartment housing. The total estimated cost of this particular project is $300,000, which will include securing the north and south sides of the building, completing the electrical and plumbing work and one apartment on the second floor, and restoring the grand staircase to the second floor. This is the first time Guthrie Center has received a Community Catalyst Building Remediation grant, for which the program began in 2018 to create fundamental, positive change in Iowa’s downtowns.
