The Greene County Fair continues to roll along this week at the fairgrounds in Jefferson.
Tomorrow brings more livestock shows to 4-H and FFA. At 8am will be the swine show, followed by the horse and pony show at 11. Then in the afternoon, 4-H’ers will be picking up their static exhibits, and more livestock will be checked in. Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms describes how livestock will be judged, with COVID-19 precautions in mind.
“The class sizes will be smaller. Anything that is pen of three or a pair will be in a pen or something similar, so we’re not having multiple exhibitors show in close quarters to each other. That is how we will handle our larger animals. We’ll be spreading out the animals farther and we’ll do the best that we can to keep our kids socially distant in the ring.”
Additionally, since the general public is discouraged from attending the livestock shows, Home State Bank in Jefferson is sponsoring a free live stream of the shows on their Facebook page at HSBANKIOWA. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Lil’ Big Red Radio will continue to broadcast live from the fair through Sunday, reporting results and playing music.
