With camping at or near capacity this summer at Springbrook State Park, the staff has increased their facility cleaning frequency to mitigate COVID-19.

Park Ranger Rod Nelsen says that since they’ve reopened all the campground units and cabin, park attendance has been at its peak for the year. In return, Nelsen says his staff are doing all they can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, “We clean more frequently. Generally speaking, our camp host does a fantastic job cleaning our shower buildings and pit toilets very early in the morning. And then the park staff will clean it at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and then once more during the evening, and throughout the day our host will walk through to make sure everything is functioning like it’s supposed to. And then usually every two weeks we will go through it and thoroughly clean it with a power washer.”

Nelsen adds they use the recommended chemicals for cleaning, and they do provide hand sanitizer in the shower and restroom buildings. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reminds all park goers to practice social distancing, wash hands frequently, cover coughs, and stay home when feeling sick.
