There has been little rainfall to relieve the majority of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area from having drought-like conditions.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, all of Greene and Guthrie counties, and the majority of Dallas County are abnormally dry. Weatherology Meteorologist Nick Carlyle says the recent dry conditions are mostly due to the current “Omega Block” and bringing in tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico. Carlyle mentions precipitation may be on the way soon.
“It looks like the holding pattern should be breaking down and that should give us more rainfall.”
According to the National Weather Service, Guthrie County has had 0.93 inches of rain this week, while Perry has had 0.82 inches and Jefferson has seen 0.37 inches. The best chance of rain going into next week is Thursday morning.
