Some noticeable changes could be on the horizon for an often-used exit off Interstate 80 in Dallas County, but before that the public is invited to weigh in.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is asking people to provide input on proposed improvements to the I-80 interchange with Highway 169 in DeSoto. Under normal circumstances the feedback would be obtained in public meetings with those most affected by the change, but due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns the community will be able to provide comments online. If approved, the project would include installation of traffic signals at the ramp terminals, along with turn lanes to improve the flow of vehicles. The DOT points out that traffic during construction would be maintained via staging at all times, and lane closures would be limited to non-peak travel hours.

As the Highway 169 corridor increases in population, particularly Adel, traffic at the exit off I-80 has grown at a similar rate creating safety concerns that didn’t exist before. The DOT feels a change of some kind is needed for the area, but officials want to gauge the desires of local residents before committing to anything drastic.
