Nevada brings its softball team to Jefferson tonight to take on Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County Rams at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway. The Cubs are off to one of their better starts in awhile at 5-2 while the Rams have lost four in a row and stand at 1-4 on the season and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
The teams are real contrasts at the plate with Nevada hitting .259 as a team with an impressive 21 extra base hits, or three a game. The Cubs have 18 doubles, two triples, and a home run in seven contests while the Rams have gone without an extra base hit in the first five games to start the season and the team batting average is .214. Nevada’s defense has been much more solid than Greene County’s to start the season as well with 10 fewer errors charged.
Leadoff batter Izzy Bravard is a slap hitter who has been getting on base for the Rams. The senior is hitting .389, more than .120 points better than the next highest average on the team.
Game time is set for around 7:15 p.m.
