The Raccoon River Pet Rescue facility in Perry is gradually opening its doors to the public, and recently they received financial support from a local benevolent organization.

On June 20th, they were presented with a check for $1,000 from the Perry Elks Lodge, Number 407, to be used for operating expenses as the shelter gets up and running. The funds were provided through a $2,000 Gratitude Grant awarded to the Perry Lodge by the Elks National Foundation. In their decision to give part of their grant to the new animal shelter, Leading Knight Amber Green emphasized the importance of remembering that pets need help too. She noted that the funds were earmarked for spay and neuter programs specifically targeted for the pets of veteran and elderly citizens of Perry.

Since its inception in 1898, the Perry Elks Lodge has donated over $3.9 million to the Perry community.
