The 2020 Dallas County Fair will be operating without public participation this year, though ISU Extension and Outreach is still ensuring the community gets to see what their 4-H kids have been working on all year.
In lieu of public presentations of livestock, Dallas County Extension is using social media to highlight those who will be participating in a limited capacity during this year’s fair from July 6-12. Their “Meet the 4-H’er” promotion has already introduced the community to several pairs, with each post accompanied by a description of the animal from their 4-H companion. In addition to giving the kids and their animals some time in the spotlight, Extension is also using the campaign to help their members have a little fun this summer. If the public likes and shares the post, the featured 4-H’er will be entered to win a gift card to Sky Zone in Grimes.
The 2020 Dallas County Fair, the prefair rodeo, and all grandstand entertainment was cancelled due to ongoing concerns of COVID-19. However, the local 4-H and FFA programs are planning to have students present their projects at the fairgrounds without the public in attendance, and while maintaining proper social distancing.
