More housing options will be available in Perry after this summer, with the first of at least two 30-unit market rate apartment buildings going up on the east side of the City.
Referred to as “Perrywood,” the development is located at what will eventually be the intersection of 28th and McKinley streets, just to the east of Rowley Masonic Community and the Perry Middle and High School complex. Perry Community and Economic Development Director Mike Fastenau says the apartments and subsequent townhomes and single-family houses in the area will be an attractive addition to the City’s ever-improving real estate landscape. “I think it’s something that will add a much needed amenity as far as market rate apartments for people that are looking to come to Perry, but may not want to buy first but want to have a place to reside. And I think it’s going to just supplement and compliment our existing housing stock immensely.”
The City of Perry is also beginning the project to extend 28th Street to McKinley this summer, which was expedited thanks to the impending housing development. Fastenau says the improved accessibility to the area the road project will create is another example of how Perry officials have taken an active role in the City’s growth, which he feels will pay quick dividends.
