Heading into a pair of double headers at Van Meter, the AC/GC baseball and softball teams had a steep hill to climb all evening.
On the baseball side of the complex, the Chargers couldn’t stop an explosive Bulldog offense. AC/GC gave up six runs in the first, two runs in the second and third innings, then one more in the fifth before the ten run rule took affect and Van Meter won 11-0 after five innings. The second half of the double header looked like it was heading in a similar direction after Van Meter plated five runs in the first two innings until AC/GC started to get in a defensive rhythm. AC/GC would give up another run in the fourth, then one more in the fifth as this game would go the full seven innings with the defending state champs coming out on top 7-0.
The softball team would have a similar night going 0-2 in their double header as well, losing the first game 6-0, then the second 14-2 in five innings. The baseball team will make the trip to face off against I-35 Friday evening to wrap up the week.
