As Iowa State Parks celebrate their 100th year, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Iowa Tourism Office has launched a new opportunity for Iowans to explore the parks and support local tourism attractions and businesses.
Iowans can download a free “digital passport” and receive prizes for visiting multiple parks in the state. The passport also offers discounts to restaurants and tourist attractions near each park. Springbrook State Park Ranger Rod Nelsen says over 10,000 people have signed up for the promotion to earn digital stamps that qualifies them for prizes, including a grand prize drawing for a two-night stay at Honey Creek Resort in Moravia, “What a great opportunity during these tough times when some folks aren’t even working yet. What better way to just get in the car and travel to three or four state parks in a day and learn more about some of the parks that you may have been to before but maybe haven’t hiked or went kayaking before. We have a lot of traffic from the Des Moines area that we’ve never seen before and we definitely get a lot of traffic from the Council Bluffs-Omaha area as well. So we’re seeing visitors from all over the place.”
