In response to the disruptions of many Guthrie County celebrations and cancellation of the Iowa State Fair this year, the Guthrie County Fair Queen contest has announced some changes.
Guthrie County Fair Queen Coordinator Christina Wilson has announced with a heavy heart that she and the Fair Board have chosen to cancel the crowning of a 2021 fair queen. Wilson states they made this decision as the 2020 queen Rylee Sloss has seen her entire reign be taken away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including competing for the state fair queen. The Board has asked Sloss to extend her reign and compete in 2021. All contestants who expressed interest in being the 2021 Guthrie County Fair Queen will automatically be entered into the 2022 competition. Wilson thanks the public for their understanding and continued support. No official decisions have been made on the county fair in general, which is scheduled for September 4-7.
