Perry High School Instrumental Music Director Rachel Poss recently made several announcements regarding the upcoming marching band season, and she’s excited to get started on her first full year with the program.
First, Poss will be doing in-person lessons through the rest of the summer, so students interested can contact her for scheduling information. Second, she announced the drum majors for the year, which will be seniors Bella Nath and Sebastian Hernandez, as well as the individual section leaders. Finally, Poss revealed the show for the year, called “Step Into the Light,” which is a three movement piece that includes well-known classical music as arranged by Jason Nitsch.
She said she’s looking forward to the program and working with the students, and reminds them to do their part during the rest of the summer. “Keep checking your email. You’re probably going to get stuff from me maybe once a week or so. You’ll get some stuff in the mail too, I’m hoping to send out a packet of marching band information and your music some time in July, so you can start working on that. So check your mail. And get ahold of any underclassmen or incoming freshmen you might know, and just kind of encourage them to be up to date on all this.”
Some important summer dates include the voluntary band retreat on July 31st and August 1st, and the mandatory band camp from August 4-7. Poss is hopeful to get a good headstart on the show, and encourages band members to reach out to her for any additional help. She also emphasizes that she’s given people a lot of advance notice for the camps, so there’s no excuse for people to miss anything due to scheduling conflicts.
