The deadline is approaching for the inaugural Hotel Pattee scholarship program, and owners Tom and Vicki Maxwell encourage recent Perry High School graduates to submit their applications now.

Tom says the idea came about as the couple was thinking about ways to help the Perry community during the COVID-19 pandemic, based on the suggestion of his business partner Jenny Eklund. He emphasizes that helping kids is a passion of theirs, so offering $1,000 to 20 students who are going onto postsecondary education made sense. Tom also notes that the program could continue into the future, based on how it goes this year. “We thought, you know ‘20 for 2020’ kind of was a good ring. And obviously if it’s received well and this class – if they take it seriously, and do the application forms, and get all that in, and it looks like a successful program – you know why couldn’t we do ‘21 for 2021,’ and keep that ball rolling? So it’s just something that we want to do, we have a couple businesses in Perry, we love the community (and) we just want to support it. And this is just something Vicki and I would like to do.”

The deadline to submit an application is July 1st. All forms can be printed off the Hotel Pattee website, and must be dropped off at the hotel. The scholarships will be announced later in July, and presented at a special reception. For more information or to access the online application, click the link below.
