The Jefferson Public Library’s Children Department is reaching a new age group with the Summer Reading Program.
Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says they are encouraging infants to 3-year-olds to join their own Summer Reading Program. She describes why they wanted to include the youngest demographic.
“We think it’s really important to reach the little ones before they reach school age, and get them excited about reading, and enjoying things that the library has to offer. It’s just kind of an incentive to get them started on the reading adventure and then they’ll be ready to join the summer reading program with the older kids down the road.”
From June 22nd-August 9th, each participant that reads, or has read to them, ten books and five nursery rhymes will receive a free board book and bookbag. To learn more about the summer reading program, contact the Children’s Department at 515-386-4415.
