Two Greene County 4-H’ers were recently named as this year’s scholarship award winners from the Greene County 4-H Foundation.
Tieryn Tucker and Cole Betts each received a $1,000 scholarship. Tucker will be attending Iowa Central Community College studying agriculture education. Betts will be going to Iowa State University for ag business and agronomy. The scholarships are given to high school 4-H seniors who exemplify leadership, citizenship and communication skills. The program is funded primarily through proceeds from the Clover Cafe at the Greene County Fair.
However, Clover Cafe will be closed to the public for this year’s county fair, due to COVID-19 concerns. Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce Board member Pete Bardole says they are working with area restaurants to provide a virtual Clover Cafe.
“(We are helping) Volunteers to work with restaurants to have specials for fair participants. I think it’ll be really good for the area restaurants. They still need our support, it’s I’m sure still being tough on them.”
Tucker and Betts were formally announced as the scholarship winners during a Facebook Live event through the Greene County School District last week.
