The first week of the abbreviated high school baseball season has the Greene County Rams at Gilbert tonight in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams are looking for win number one after dropping a 2-1 decision at Saydel in Des Moines on Monday, then losing the home opener Wednesday night vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) by a 10-4 final.

Gilbert is 1-0 in league play after winning 6-1 vs. Nevada on Monday night. The Tigers have played non-conference contests the rest of this week until hosting the Rams tonight. Gilbert features top-notch pitcher Easton Johnston, a junior who opened the season with five shut out innings vs. the Cubs. He allowed one hit and two walks while striking out 10 batters.

The Rams upset Gilbert, and Easton Johnston, in the opening round of Class 3A District tournament play in Gilbert last July.
