The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in-person for their most recent meeting, which was the first time they’ve done so since March.

Prior to that, the meetings had been held virtually through the Go To Meeting video conferencing service, in order to allow everyone to properly social distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. When they reconvened in-person, though, the question was raised of if they could continue to have virtual meetings as an option for the public. Supervisor Mark Hanson brought up the topic, commenting that it seemed to be a convenient way for many individuals to attend the meetings without having to make the trip to Adel.

Hanson noted he was happy the Board could once again be in the same room, which made several aspects of the meeting easier and more efficient, such as the simple act of making and seconding motions. However, he pointed out that for people either wanting to observe or just stay for one or two items on the agenda, the online meetings created a simpler method. The other two Supervisors agreed that it’s something they could explore for future meetings, and asked Information Technology Director Todd Noah to look into the possibilities.

The Board encouraged feedback from the public regarding the matter, and will likely make a determination in the coming weeks.
