The AC/GC softball team faced their toughest foe to this point in the season Thursday evening.
WCAC foe Pleasantville made the trip to Guthrie Center in what was supposed to be a varsity double header but was condensed to just a single game due to the threat of inclement weather. The game started slow. The Trojans were able to get one run across in the first inning but when freshman pitcher Saige O’Brien faced pressure early on she responded with strong work from the cirlcle. The score remained 1-0 until Pleasantville found their swing in the 4th inning and were able to put up five runs in the frame. They kept it rolling in the 5th adding three more runs to bring the score to 9-0 heading into the home half of the fifth.
AC/GC had no issues getting runner aboard but were unable to get past third base all night. They left runners on in every inning but one, for a total of 12 left on base. Junior EmmaKay McClain earned our Precision Components Player of the Game honors by going 2-2 with two singles and a walk. A two-run homerun from the Trojans in the sixth was enough to eclipse the 10-run threshold and the game ended after six innings.
The Chargers fall to 1-2 on the young season and will hopefully be back in action this weekend with their home tournament, weather pending.
