Tuesday afternoon, Perry Hy-Vee management presented a special surprise for one unsuspecting member of the Perry High School Class of 2020.
Recently graduated senior Angela Hernandez was the recipient of a gift basket filled with an assortment of goodies, after her name was drawn from amongst several other nominated students. The basket was presented at the Des Moines Area Community College VanKirk Career Academy by new Perry Hy-Vee Store Manager Brian Osmanski, who has been at the store since February. He was helped by Perry DMACC Director Eddie Diaz, who arranged for Hernandez to stop by the facility to receive the surprise, and Perry Hy-Vee Community Involvement Director Larry Vodenik, who organized the local giveaway.
Osmanski said this was the first year Hy-Vee has done this type of company-wide program, adding that it was their way to show support to the Class of 2020 after their senior year was ended abruptly by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hernandez will be attending DMACC in the fall to major in business management, and plans to eventually transfer to a four year college to finish her education. She’s also involved in the DMACC summer internship program, and was selected as a 2020 Governor’s Scholar honoree. Hernandez was very surprised to be presented with the Hy-Vee gift basket, and expressed her gratitude to Hy-Vee and the local managers.
