asphalt-overlay-2020-perry

The 2020 Perry asphalt overlay project is well underway, with many streets around the City already touched.

Perry Public Works Director Jack Butler says the process will continue throughout the early summer, and will also include the parking lots at the post office and public safety building. The contractor Des Moines Asphalt will repave around 60 blocks in Perry, which Butler says will be a nice facelift to the neighborhoods. He emphasizes that residents will be given plenty of warning prior to construction, and also notes the process is quick. “It’s not a real hassle for the homeowners. If they’re out in front of your house and they’re milling, you can still get out of your driveway. On top of that, they’ve been real good with giving everybody notices, letting you know of the project. And then when they get more pinpointed down to the exact date that they’re going to be there, they come through ahead of that and hang fliers again so that everybody knows to try and get their cars out of the way.”

Butler adds, once the street is milled and repaved, the new asphalt is driveable in less than an hour. He also advises that the overlay and restriping project has now commenced on 1st Street/Highway 144, which may disrupt through traffic in Perry.
