The Jefferson Public Library has announced this year’s Teen Summer Reading program.
Library Director Jane Millard says the theme is “The Great Summer Pandemic Adventure.” The program will be from June 18th-August 13th for kids going into 6th-12th grades. Millard describes how they chose the theme.
“Nothing about the virus has been fun, but we’re trying to create a little fun. So with the teens this summer we know that they have been home from school for a couple of months, and maybe they are looking for some new things that they could do, activities they will have fun with, and so we’re going to help with that. But we’re also encouraging them to read.”
Participants that read at least four books during the program will be entered to win prizes, including a tablet. Millard says due to COVID-19 and the library building being closed to the public until July 6th, teens can pick up a new activity packet each Thursday, and each packet will include a free snack bag. Anyone with questions or to register for the Teen Summer Reading program can call the library at 515-386-2835.
