Scholten in Churdan in December of 2019
Protests are continuing to happen across Iowa and the U.S. against police brutality following the death of George Floyd.
Democratic candidate for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District J.D. Scholten sympathizes with those protesting and gives his remarks on what he’s been seeing take place.
“I don’t think we should forget about why it happened and the systemic racism that America has dealt with for a long, long time now. That’s a lot of where my focus on talking about all of this. Me being a white guy from Sioux City I have a role to play in this, I need to talk about economic and racial injustices when we see it.”
Scholten applauds the peaceful protests that have taken place so far, including a peaceful protest that took place earlier this month in Sioux City where the City’s police chief, local pastors and the Sioux County Sheriff participated together.
