A road project that has been worked on for the past month is nearing the finish line in Perry.

Contractor Des Moines Asphalt and Paving has been doing some concrete patching and other prep work for the main re-paving and lane reconfiguration of a major roadway. Project Manager and Main Estimater Brian Beaird tells Raccoon Valley Radio on Monday crews will begin milling down the roadway on Highway 144 from Highway 141 north to the two-lane portion at city limits.

Beaird says while they are milling down the existing road, the outside right lanes will be closed and traffic will be reduced to two lanes. Additionally, there will be intermediate side street closures. Beaird anticipates the 1½-mile project to be complete by Friday, pending weather, and new lanes will be painted by the weekend. The road will be reconfigured from four lanes to two lanes with a center turn lane.

Des Moines Asphalt and Paving and the City of Perry are working with the Iowa Department of Transportation, which is the lead entity of the project, due to the work being done on a state highway.
