The Iowa House of Representatives passed a revised version of a Senate bill Thursday night which initially proposed that the Secretary of State would not be allowed to mail all voters absentee ballot requests in lieu of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The House voted 95-2 in favor of the amended bill which eliminated the election restriction which would have potentially prevented a record turnout for the upcoming general election as Iowa had with the recent primary. House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen (R) describes some changes the House made to the legislation, “The Senate bill was a long bill and so we took out most of it. What we did include was, it will require the Secretary of State in any kind of emergency, will have to consult the Legislative Council before he takes action.”

The amended bill now heads back to the Senate for consideration. You can hear more from Sorensen during today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
