A Des Moines woman was recently sentenced to jail for a Jefferson incident.

According to court documents, 28-year-old Yasday Sorter pled guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and a serious misdemeanor for her second offense for possession of a controlled substance. She was sentenced to serve 20 days and two days in the Greene County Jail respectively and given credit for time already served.

The charges stemmed from a December 17th incident. A Jefferson Police Officer saw a vehicle parked at a business at 606 Highway 30 that didn’t match the license plate. After apprehending Sorter following a short foot chase, it was discovered that the Des Moines Police Department reported the vehicle was reported stolen. During the investigation, the officer also found drug-related items outside of the business that Sorter admitted it belonged to her.

Court documents show that the driving while barred charge was dismissed and the felony for first degree theft was changed to the aggravated misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent. Sorter was ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines, surcharges, fees and court costs.
