A Grand Junction man was recently sentenced to probation for a February incident.

According to court documents, 20-year-old Dakota Barrett pled guilty to a lesser charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He had a 30-day jail sentence suspended and was placed on probation for one year.

The charge stemmed from a traffic stop in Grand Junction on Thursday, February 13th. Barrett was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for speeding. During the stop, the Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed another passenger, Joshua Blumberg had several outstanding warrants.  A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and drug-related items were found. Barrett, Blumberg and the driver, Whitney Campbell, were all charged with two felonies for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and a third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance, along with possession of drug paraphernalia. Court documents show the two felonies for Barrett were dismissed, as per a plea agreement.

Blumberg pled guilty to the same two felonies and was sentenced to five years of probation. The driver, Whitney Campbell, is awaiting trial.

Barrett’s probation sentence is to run consecutively with two other cases. He violated his probation of a fifth degree theft conviction last year which will continue for another year and he was ordered to 15 days in the Greene County Jail for contempt of court. The other case was a third degree theft conviction, of which he was sentenced to probation, which will also be continued. He was also ordered to pay over $300 in fines, court costs, attorney fees and surcharges.
