The Greene County High School softball and baseball teams begin their abbreviated 2020 seasons next Monday, June 15. A number of changes from the norm will be implemented due to COVID-19 concerns. For Greene County and other Heart of Iowa Activities Conference schools, all admissions will be free will offerings. Most conference schools will have no bleacher seating or very limited bleacher seating. Greene County’s softball and baseball bleachers have been removed. Fans should bring their own lawn chairs or stand and fans will not be allowed behind home plate because teams will be using that area as social distancing will be used in the dugouts.
Greene County Activities Director Todd Gordon pointed out that no concession stands will be operating, and that fans may bring individual coolers for their family only, and that coolers are subject to search. Gordon said another big change is no sunflower seeds will be allowed by anyone, and no one is allowed to spit. Posted signs will have guidelines for players and fans alike. He pointed out anyone not feeling well should stay home.
KGRA 98.9 FM and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will be broadcasting a number of Greene County games this summer starting with Matt Paulsen’s head coaching debut on June 15 in Des Moines vs. Saydel. Game time is approximately 7:30 p.m.
