The Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center spent the several weeks it was closed due to COVID-19 this spring doing some housekeeping and cleaning out its lesser read books.
Now residents can come find their next adventure during the library’s month-long book sale. The library has over 1,000 books set out for patrons to peruse and take home for a freewill donation. While Library Director Pat Sleister encourages the public to check out the sale, she reminds them that their hours are currently limited and visitors are asked to spend no more than 30 minutes in their facility, as a health precaution, “We can have no more than 20 people in the library at a time and that’s not been an issue so far. But the one thing is we do not allow meetings of any kind, even of two people, it’s just better that way. We’ve also limited our hours, we’re not open on Saturdays, we’ve had to leave time so that we can clean between visits, so the computers have to be sanitized every time someone uses one and all the books coming back have to be sanitized.”
Currently the book sale features adult fiction and non-fiction books, but children’s and other genres are expected to be added through the end of June. The library is currently open from 2-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon on Friday, and closed Saturday.
