An Algona woman was recently sentenced to prison for an incident in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 32-year-old Heather Schulz pled guilty to two aggravated misdemeanors for identity theft and a serious misdemeanor for 4th degree theft. She was sentenced to a total of five years in prison.
The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Jefferson Police Department. Schulz was involved in forging checks with 47-year-old Mark Mendenhall of Fort Dodge. The checks were used from September 29th-October 11th and they were used at businesses in Fort Dodge, Boone, Altoona and Jefferson.
Schulz’s prison sentences are to run consecutively, while also concurrently with charges from Kossuth County including five years in prison for possession of a firearm by a felon and a felony for forgery. She was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, surcharges, court costs and attorney fees.
