Greene County softball and baseball teams have been practicing since June 1 in preparation for the COVID-19 shortened seasons. The Rams open the schedule on Monday, June 15 in Des Moines at  Saydel High School for both softball and baseball. The first Greene County home softball and baseball is set for Wednesday, June 17 vs. South Hamilton (Jewell).

Fans, players, and coaches, will have to adhere to a number of changes, including social distancing. Activities Director Todd Gordon talks specifically about where fans will allowed to sit for softball at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway and for baseball at Allensworth Field. “Seating. We have taken all of our bleachers out of our ball fields for baseball and softball. Those are removed. Behind the home plate extended from dugout to dugout is blocked off and reserved for teams in Jefferson. So, there will be no seating behind home plate. The seating is going to be from the end of the dugouts all the way around the outfield. You’ll have to bring your own lawn chairs, or stand.”

Admission throughout the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference will be a free will offering. Greene County will only be playing the 14 HOIAC games for the regular season with seven at home and seven on the road.
