A band of severe thunderstorms passed through the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area early Friday morning, with multiple reports of strong wind gusts and related damage.
The initial warning was issued at 3:18 a.m. for counties including Greene. The system moved southeast and was expanded at 3:45 a.m. to include portions of Guthrie County and all of Dallas. The warning was then extended for Dallas and Guthrie Counties at 4:12 a.m. as it tracked further east. The primary hazards of the storm were wind gusts between 60-70 miles-per-hour, and torrential rainfall. Winds in that range were reported by local law enforcement, trained weather spotters, and emergency management agencies in Bayard, Bagley, Minburn, and Dallas Center. As for damage, there were several reports of trees and power lines down in several communities in Greene and Dallas counties. The outages have also impacted KDLS 1310AM and 99.7FM in Perry and KGRA 98.9FM in Jefferson, as both stations are running on auxiliary power at this time.
The storms moved out of the listening area and the warnings were allowed to expire at 5 a.m. Three members of the Severe Weather Action Team took the air to provide live coverage of the storm. Whenever severe weather affects Dallas, Greene, or Guthrie counties, the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team will provide updates and track the storm as it affects the listening area.
