The Greene County School District is offering a different look to how the summer school program will function this year.
Normally, the District would have kids that are required and recommended to go to summer school so they can be proficient in the skills needed to advance onto the next grade level. However, Superintendent Tim Christensen describes a change the District needed to make to offer summer school this year, due to COVID-19.
“The one change again is that if a district does offer summer school it has to completely be voluntary, it cannot be required.”
With that in mind, the District has scheduled summer school to take place from July 20th-August 6th for any kindergarten-8th grader that wants to attend. The program will be split into two groups to adhere to the social distancing requirements and to provide the best educational environment for these students. One group will attend Mondays and Wednesdays and the other group on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The District is asking for individuals to complete a survey to gauge the amount of students that will attend and also for transportation and the number of teachers needed for summer school. The survey must be completed by June 8th. Click here to access the survey.
