When the Greene County Courthouse in Jefferson opens to the public again tomorrow, the Treasurer’s office will look and function a little bit differently.

The courthouse has been closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen says they will take walk-ins for motor vehicle and property tax transactions, but driver’s license items will only be handled by appointment until further notice.

“This is to maintain safety for our employees and for you. So we think appointment only will help us, help you guys more efficiently. So if you have an appointment, we ask you to stay outside of the treasurer’s office and will come and get you for your driver’s license appointment. And please note that if you are more than ten minutes late you will need to reschedule.”

Mechaelsen notes if you are doing a motor vehicle or property tax transaction, you are to use one of the marked yellow “Xs” on the floor of the treasurer’s office. She adds, if all Xs are filled to wait outside of the office for social distancing purposes. Driver’s license appointments can be made by calling 515-386-5675, you can also leave a message and you will receive a call back to schedule an appointment.

Mechaelsen encourages everyone to wear a face mask when entering her office and residents can still use the dropbox outside of the east door for an easier way to make payments. You can hear more from Mechaelsen listen to today and tomorrow’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
