Official practice starts today for Iowa high school baseball and softball teams including the Greene County Rams. Tom Kennedy returns as the softball head coach and Matt Paulsen starts his tenure heading the baseball program.
Greene County will be playing a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference 14 game schedule with no non-conference games and no weekend tournaments. Activities Director Todd Gordon told Raccoon Valley Radio the whole country will be watching Iowa because this is the only state that plays baseball and softball as summer high school sports. “It’s a great responsibility, and we do need to show that we can do this.” He added that baseball and softball lend themselves to social distancing easier than some other sports because of the size of the diamonds and the baseball/softball complexes. “People can space themselves out a little bit.”
The Rams open the season in two weeks on June 15 in Des Moines vs. the Saydel Eagles for both baseball and softball. Again this season, a number of games will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
