The Dallas County Board of Supervisors recently approved a resolution to begin the reopening of offices and buildings around the County, including the Treasurer’s Office.
As of now, the Treasurer’s motor vehicle and property tax departments at the Dallas County Courthouse are open in a limited capacity. The phased reopening plan allows people to schedule in-person next-day appointments for both offices. Treasurer Mitch Hambleton says that includes all functions on the tax side, but only specific transactions for motor vehicle. Title transfers and requests, out-of-state move-in’s, and specialty plate pick-ups can now be done at the courthouse, but Hambleton says they will continue to do registration renewals online, by mail, or through the courthouse drop box.
Appointments for both departments will be available Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and noon, and can be made by phone between 1-4 p.m. by calling 515-993-5812. Hambleton points out, the phone lines will be disabled during the morning hours so they can better assist in-person customers. Eventually he plans to expand to online appointment scheduling with text message notification, and notes that for the foreseeable future appointments will be a way of life for most things. Hambleton adds, the upside of the appointment requirement is that it should be easier to plan your visit and be finished in a timely manner. The use of face masks is recommended when in the courthouse for any function, though not required.
