With the heightened importance of people wearing face masks when in public settings due to COVID-19 concerns, it can be a hindrance for individuals who also wear glasses.
Optometrist Dr. Kyle Stadler with Central Iowa Family EyeCare in Jefferson has some ways to reduce fogginess for eyeglass wearers when they also wear face masks. He says if your mask has flexible metal on the nose piece, to pinch that tighter to your nose, which will help reduce the fog on your glasses. Dr. Stadler describes another helpful tip.
“Taking a Klenex and actually folding that around the top of the mask to allow a little bit better ventilation, but also still making sure that the proper face mask is covering and doing its job.”
Dr. Stalder says other ways to reduce fog on glasses while wearing a mask include washing glasses in warm soapy water and letting them air dry and spitting on the glasses and rubbing them around the lens. He cautions against other remedies that people may find on the internet, which could be abrasive to glasses and damage them.
