Starting today and running through the end of June, the Perry Area Food Pantry will have a special treat for patrons that will encourage healthy eating.

The pantry will have a box of fresh fruit and vegetables available to all customers, to go along with their normal food options. As a reminder, customers can only get food assistance once per month, so if they haven’t participated in May, the produce is available to them today. Site Manager Lou Hoger says there should be enough for everyone who wants the fresh fruit and vegetables each week, but patrons should still call ahead and request it when they make their food pickup appointments.

The pantry is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1-3:30 p.m., and the public is reminded that they’re still not allowed inside due to COVID-19 concerns. Instead, people will fill out a request form when they call ahead or arrive, and their orders will be filled by volunteers and delivered to the customer in their vehicle. For more information or to schedule a pickup, contact Hoger at 515-570-2975.
