The Perry Public Library is gearing up for their annual Summer Reading Program, though Library Director Mary Murphy says it will look a lot different this year.

Murphy says one of the biggest differences is that the KidsFest program won’t be kicking off the program in June, but instead will wrap things up in July. Other than that, she notes there will be several digital opportunities for participants. “Summer reading is going to be summer reading; we’re going to have a program, it’s not going to look like the program that we’ve had in the past. But everybody in town will be receiving in their water bill an insert that has a reading log on it. And you can use that reading log, or we have actually hired a vendor so you can do it on your phone.”

Murphy says the app is called Reader Zone, and it’s free to download on any device. In addition to logging their reading time, summer reading participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a series of “Adventure Quests,” which Murphy says should be fun for all ages. There are 24 tasks to complete, and those who reach 18 can turn in their cards for a chance to win an Amazon Kindle or Perry merchant gift cards.
