With the end of the 2019-2020 school year in sight, some of the teachers in the Greene County School District are organizing a social distancing parade to wrap up the school year.

The “Teacher Tour” will take place this Friday with specific routes in Scranton, Jefferson, Grand Junction and Rippey. The event will start in Scranton at 4pm, then head to Jefferson about 4:30, Grand Junction around 5:55 and finishing in Rippey at 6:30. The route times are approximate, but they will try to stay as close to these times as possible.

Organizers have laid out some expectations for anyone wishing to participate in the Teacher Tour. School staff participating in the tour will not stop and talk with spectators, nor are spectators allowed to approach any of the vehicles and groups of people are not encouraged to stand together. However, staff will honk and wave from their vehicles, spectators can stand on their porch, yard, driveway or sidewalk and wave at the teachers, and it is recommended to practice social distancing by keeping six feet apart.

Organizers say the routes go by most of the student homes, but for those that it doesn’t go by, there are designated locations that people can gather to participate. Some of these locations include the high school parking lot in Jefferson, State Street, the parking lot area between the administrative building and the middle school, and the park area near the City of Jefferson impound lot on the corner of Locust and Perry streets. No candy or items will be thrown during the tour, however anyone watching the event is encouraged to make a sign and wave.
