Those who have eagerly awaited the end of May and the return of the Perry Farmers Market are sadly going to be disappointed this year, as its start date has been pushed back.

Perry Chamber of Commerce Director Lynsi Pasutti says though restrictions related to COVID-19 have been relaxed in areas such as farmers markets, they’ve decided to err on the side of caution. “We’ve decided to hold off and we’re going to wait until July to open up the farmers market. And hopefully by then things will calm down a little bit, and we’ll be able to have a more normal farmers market. But we’ll be able to implement some of those precautions and those recommendations for both our vendors and our shoppers, so that everyone can continue to be safe while shopping the market. And we’ll be able to provide that for the community.”

The offerings at the farmers market may also be different once it opens back up, with the state currently allowing only food vendors to take part and prohibiting craft and information vendors. Pasutti says that’s something they’ll keep an eye on as it develops, and she’s hopeful all the regular vendors will get to take part at some point this season. She also says with the late start, there’s a possibility they could extend the last week to later in the fall, depending on what vendors have at that point.
