At their most recent meeting, the Perry City Council awarded the bid for the 28th Street extension project, which will begin soon.
The street currently ends at the Rowley Masonic Community facility, but with new housing developments about to be erected at the street’s eventual intersection with McKinley Street, the time table for the project was expedited. The Council approved the low bid of $225,692 from Absolute Concrete, which was one of six contractors to bid. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson notes the price was slightly higher than expected, but says it was well within the City’s budget. He explains the scope and necessity of the project. “We’re going to be extending that street through to McKinley. So that street will go all the way from Willis to McKinley, and hopefully create a nice thoroughfare through there to get possibly kind of an easier way up around to the north side of town. And also another access point to the high school, to hopefully get that out of some residential streets that some people kind of take now to get around that side of town.”
Peterson adds, City staff and the contractors will have a preconstruction meeting in the near future where they’ll identify a more firm timeline for the project.
