The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Speech Team dusted off their individual pieces from March earlier this week, performing in a virtual state contest, with six entries earning All-State nominations.

The actual state speech event scheduled March 14th was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic hitting Iowa. Many schools elected to perform for certified judges electronically, which the ADM team did Thursday. There were 19 entries performed, and 13 of them received overall “I” ratings from the judges. Six of those 13 were also recommended for All-State recognition, including: Avery Brady in after dinner speaking and poetry; Kadyn Dimler in literary program; Cash Riker in after dinner speaking; Alexa Seidl in literary program; and Sean Whitson in solo musical theatre.

While there will be no in-person individual All-State Festival this year, the nominees will still receive medals and recognition from the Iowa High School Speech Association. ADM Speech Coach Jacque Seidl says she is proud of the five students selected to All-State. She adds, it was a tough situation, but she was impressed with how everyone performed months after the district contest.
