More than 400 members of the Class of 2020 were honored recently as recipients of the annual Governor’s Scholar Program, including several Dallas County students.

The awardees are selected by their high schools as the highest academic achievers, and they receive a recognition plaque and certificate to commemorate the honor. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the in-person ceremony was canceled, so the awards are being sent to the students instead. The honorees are encouraged to share pictures of themselves with their awards on social media, using the hashtags #iahsseniors and #IAGovScholar. The awards are presented jointly through the Governor’s Office and the Iowa High School Athletic Association. The IHSAA points out that 99% of the group participates in some sort of school activity, and more than 60% will attend post-secondary school.

The local awardees include Gabriella Snyder from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, Angela Hernandez from Perry, Sarah Frett and Bradley Ramsey from Dallas Center-Grimes, Taylor Bellon from the Woodward Academy, and Reese Jamison from Woodward-Granger.
